The Clevelands Host a State Dinner
State Dinners in the White House are glamorous affairs, as seen in this image of such a dinner held during the Cleveland administration. Several dozen guests were usually invited, and a large amount of food, china, and White House staff was needed for the event. Notice the silver on the table, the Japanese dignitary seated in the left corner, and the servants along the walls.
