The wood engraving captures a State Dinner held for the Joint High Commissioners on March 9, 1871. The Commission was made up of delegates from the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States and eventually led to the signing of the Treaty of Washington in 1871, which settled disputes between the three nations.
