The White House Historical Association has recently announced a new Amazon Alexa Skill called “White House History Guide.” This dynamic, new content for Alexa allows users to explore over 200 years of White House history, answering their questions about the White House and its inhabitants. Endless offerings of White House information are available to Alexa Skill users -- just simply ask the device: “Alexa, open White House History Guide,” or “Alexa, start White House History.”

The user’s guide is named Hoban, after the original architect of the White House, James Hoban. Hoban will be able to answer frequently asked questions, ranging from historic tales of the White House to the roles of the President.

Users can also test their knowledge with a multiple-choice quiz, and plans are underway to continue adding new content regularly.

“The Association continues to engage with new fields of interactive technology by leveraging our ongoing initiatives with Amazon Web Services. The White House History Guide is another exciting tool we have implemented to further our mission of enhancing the understanding and appreciation of the Executive Mansion,” said Stewart D. McLaurin, President of the White House Historical Association.

The Association continues its mission of providing greater access to White House history by bringing the Association’s expansive knowledge and resources into the home and classroom through any Alexa device. Learn more here.

About the White House Historical Association

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy envisioned a restored White House that conveyed a sense of history through its decorative and fine arts. She sought to inspire Americans, especially children, to explore and engage with American history and its presidents. In 1961, the nonprofit, nonpartisan White House Historical Association was established to support her vision to preserve and share the Executive Mansion’s legacy for generations to come. Supported entirely by private resources, the Association’s mission is to assist in the preservation of the state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House. Since its founding, the Association has given more than $115 million to the White House in fulfillment of its mission.
