Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Leads Speaker SeriesWashington, D.C. —
The White House Historical Association today announced its Quarterly Lecture Series for 2023, White House History with Frank Sesno. The Emmy award-winning journalist and former CNN White House Correspondent and Washington Bureau Chief will sit down with news media influencers and authors to discuss the nuances of White House discourse and journalism.
Throughout the year, White House History with Frank Sesno will explore a range of topics relevant to the White House and media including television and the presidency, women’s role in media, Black voices in journalism, and the impact of the 24-hour news cycle on the White House.
The 2023 Quarterly Lecture Series is being announced concurrently with the release of the Association’s new White House History Quarterly, “The White House and Television.”
"I'm honored to be working with the White House Historical Association to host this important and fascinating series of conversations,” said Sesno. “As a former White House correspondent, I have covered the presidency up close, and I've seen how changes in media and in the White House press corps have transformed journalism, politics, and the presidency. I look forward to exploring where we've been – and where we're going in covering this most powerful place on the planet.”
On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, Sesno will moderate the first lecture of the series, “The Televised Presidency.” The event will take place at The White House Historical Association at 5:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public; however, space is limited, and an RSVP will be required. RSVP here.
“We are privileged Frank Sesno, a revolutionary voice who has shaped television news, is joining us to explore the connection between American history and news media, ” said White House Historical Association President Stewart McLaurin. “Every year with our lecture series, we have the honor of shining a spotlight on American history to expand the reach of our educational mission, and 2023 is certainly no exception.”

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy envisioned a restored White House that conveyed a sense of history through its decorative and fine arts. She sought to inspire Americans, especially children, to explore and engage with American history and its presidents. In 1961, the nonprofit, nonpartisan White House Historical Association was established to support her vision to preserve and share the Executive Mansion’s legacy for generations to come. Supported entirely by private resources, the Association’s mission is to assist in the preservation of the state and public rooms, fund acquisitions for the White House permanent collection, and educate the public on the history of the White House. Since its founding, the Association has given more than $115 million to the White House in fulfillment of its mission.
