Woodrow Wilson's Bedroom

Woodrow Wilson's Bedroom

Created in 1917.

Woodrow Wilson's bedroom. Textiles from Appalachian Mountain craftswomen decorated what came to be called the "Blue Mountain Room." Elmeda McHargue Walker of Tennessee wove the blue and white material for the curtains and furniture. Allie Josephine Mast of North Carolina wove the rugs and fabrics. Ellen Wilson purchased the coverlet on the Lincoln Bed from the Southern Industrial Educational Association's craft show. She hoped such exposure would increase public interest in the plight of those living in the Appalachian Mountains.
