The Lincoln Bed

The Lincoln Bed

Perhaps the most famous piece of furniture in the White House, the "Lincoln Bed," was purchased by Mrs. Lincoln in 1861. The bed was placed in the "Prince of Wales Room," named after the Prince of Wales who stayed there in 1860. Carved grapes, grapevines, and birds decorate the headboard and footboard of the bed, which is six feet wide and eight feet long. President Lincoln never slept in the bed, but Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Grace Coolidge did.
