President and Mrs. Clinton at White House Menorah Lighting Ceremony

This photograph of President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton at a menorah lighting ceremony in the Oval Office was taken during Hanukkah, circa 2000. President Jimmy Carter first lit the National Menorah in Lafayette Square across from the White House in 1979. Ever since, Hanukkah has been an important part of the holiday season at the Executive Mansion. Lighting ceremonies have taken place in variety of locations including the Old Executive Office Building, the East Room, and the Oval Office.
