Program for Dinner for Delegates from the Organization of American States

This is an entertainment program for a formal dinner hosted by President Richard M. Nixon in honor of the chiefs of delegations to the Organization of American States on April 15, 1972. After-dinner entertainment was provided in the East Room by Swedish soprano Brigit Nilsson. The Organization of American States was established to promote regional solidarity and provide a political forum for independent countries in Northern, Central, and South America. As the world's oldest regional association, the Organization of American States has roots dating back to the First International Conference of American States, held in Washington, D.C., from October 1889 to April 1890. However, the organization was not formally founded until April 1945. This program is part of a personal collection belonging to former White House Executive Chef Henry Haller. As executive chef from 1966-1987, Haller oversaw the menus for many formal dinners at the White House.
