Emily Donelson
Emily Donelson (by Ralph E. W. Earl, 1830), was judged by John Eaton to be “young and uninformed of the ways and of the malice and insincerity of the world.”
This oil-on-canvas portrait of Emily Tennessee Donelson was done by Ralph E. W. Earl. She was President Andrew Jackson's niece and served as First Lady and White House hostess during his presidency after the sudden death of Jackson's wife, Rachel in December 1828, between Andrew Jackson's election and inauguration. Jackson served as president until March 4, 1837.
