Sarah Horton

Sarah, a native South Carolinian, is a passionate preservationist- -architectural, historic, cultural- - and a devotee of decorative and performing arts. Over the past two decades, she has led the restoration of three historic houses in Charleston, SC- -one of which, the William C. Gatewood house, received the AIA New York award for restoration and has been featured in several publications and books (includingThe Great American House by Gil Schafer). She is/has been deeply involved in several related architectural preservation activities including serving as a board member of the American College of the Building Arts (Charleston), member of the Connoisseur Society of Mount Vernon, and Governor of the Decorative Arts Trust. She is a member of the Preservation Society of Charleston and the Institute of Classical Art & Architecture, and previously was a student at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts. On the performing arts front, she has previously been a member of the Kennedy Center’s National Committee for the Performing Arts and the National Council of the Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet, as well as being an active supporter of the Spoleto Festival, USA (Charleston). Also, she is a past board member of the Wings After School program.

In a prior chapter of her life, Sarah worked as an Assistant Director on feature films. Following this, she worked as a documentary film maker, especially in helping produce nature preservation documentaries for Turner Broadcasting. She loves good movies and documentaries and remains a member of the Directors Guild of America. She also enjoys cooking, traveling, and entertaining- -including, hosting many charity events. And, she loves animals and directs some of her philanthropy to animal welfare. She and her husband, Ozey, live in Charleston and currently try to oversee two very independent-minded French Bulldogs.
