The exhibition Life in the Lincoln White House focused on the space where President Abraham Lincoln spent the majority of his time as president: his White House office.

The exhibition recreated the office as depicted in Francis Bicknell Carpenter's 1864 painting First Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Lincoln, and also included furnishings, ceramics, and literature used in the Lincoln White House. Illustrating the White House as a home, a stage for ceremony, and office, visitors experienced the White House just as President Lincoln did, through objects he lived with and spaces he occupied, from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. The exhibition even included President Lincoln himself, holding office hours on Saturdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
